A Sense of Community

The Village on the Cannon (VOC) is much more than just a condominium building.  The VOC homeowners appreciate the opportunity to gather for coffee in the Library, happy hour on the patio and to discuss the events of the day in informal get-togethers throughout the week. Our planned events are the result of neighbors simply wanting to spend time enjoying each other’s company.  While VOC is not a senior care facility, residents pride themselves on the care they share for one another. 

The Village on the Cannon was conceived to facilitate an active community both physically and intellectually.  Our Cannon Community Room hosts classes for the Cannon Valley Elder Collegium (https://cvec.org/) and the Library provides a welcoming atmosphere to visit with neighbors, friends and family by the fire.  The building also features a small exercise room, guest suite for visitors, available storage units and a heated garage.  The Cannon River is located across the street from the VOC where the city has added access for kayaks and canoes. The adjacent Riverside Park features pickleball courts, seasonal farmer's markets, picnic areas and the walking/biking trail that borders the river for miles.  

Northfield is home to Carleton College (www.carleton.edu) and St. Olaf College (www.stolaf.edu), both of which host a year-round calendar of cultural events. The Village on the Cannon is just blocks from the historic center of town.  It’s an easy walk to the bookstore, bank, food co-op, supermarket, coffee shops, post office, public library, and hardware store as well as a number of local shops and restaurants.  Northfield features annual events including The Defeat of Jesse James Days (www.djjd.org) and Winter Walk (www.northfieldchamber.com/winter-walk).  It is also home to the seasonal, weekly Riverwalk Market Fair (www.riverwalkmarketfair.org).
